Mission: Code the Cloud to Compete!

Your Mission:

The challenge in this hackathon is to create a cloud app for the social enterprise.
  • Build an app or service that has the potential to transform the way a company does business.
  • Think about using components from a social, collaborative, mobile, enterprise, and/or location aspect.

Your application must:

  • Be custom built for this Hackathon event
  • Utilize one or more of the following: Force.com, Heroku, or Database.com

This means that you have an awesome toolkit of technologies that you can use, ranging from Chatter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter to Java, Ruby, Apex, Node.js, Clojure, and to Android and iOS.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams whose app best embodies the spirit of the challenge. All panel judges will use the same criteria as set forth by the hackathon organizers and sponsors.

Kickoff and Registration:

Tuesday, August 30

All day, during DevZone open hours:

Check in at Hackathon HQ in the Developer Zone. Bring your technical questions and pick up your exclusive hackathon t-shirt and baseball cap.

Wednesday, August 31

Sign up for App Pitch:

Starting at 6:00 am, submit your app description and sign up for an app pitch time slot. Your submission allows you to sign up for a first-round judging time. First come, first served.

During Dev Zone open hours:

Bring your technical questions and get assistance from technical resources at Hackathon HQ.

Thursday, September 1

6:00 am: App submission deadline
11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Finalists Round: Pitch your app to the judges
1:30 pm: Top 20 teams announced. Finalists are assigned an app demo slot.
2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Hackathon Finale: 20 Hackathon finalists to present and demo their application to the judges and crowd.
3:30 pm – 3:45 pm: Judges deliberate
3:45 pm – 4:00 pm: Prizes awarded

Guidelines

  • Register starting on August 26th.
  • Start hacking anytime on or after August 26th.
  • Use #dfhack on Twitter to collaborate with fellow hackers and to access our team of technical experts.

Teams must:

  • Be available for interviews by judging committee on September 1.
  • Be present at the Hackathon Finale to receive their prize.

Presentations:

Finalists Round:

  • Selection of finalists begins at 11:00 am on September 1 at Hackathon HQ.
  • Please bring your own laptop to drive the presentation of your application.
  • Teams will have 2.5 minutes to elevator pitch their app. Be prepared!
  • Wrap up at 1:00 pm sharp.

Hackathon Finale:

  • Top 20 finalists begin their presentations at 2:30 pm in Moscone West 2002. Teams will have 2.5 minutes each to pitch their apps and demo to the crowd and the committee of judges plus partner category sponsors.
  • Presentations wrap up at 3:30 pm sharp, awards will be presented at 3:45 pm.
